Sports Recap: September 28- October 5

Powderpuff Games

The junior and senior girls got a chance to show off their football skills last Thursday, October 3.

For the junior game, team white and team blue battled it out, with team white scoring the first touchdown. However, team blue quickly tied the game with a touchdown from Marissa Cummings. Ultimately, the white team came out on top with a final score of 25-20. “I decided to do Powderpuff because I had heard so many great things about it from my upperclassmen friends,” Grace Lightfoot, member of the junior blue team. “I do think it was totally worth it, even though the blue team lost, we still had a great time.”

For the senior game, the score was a little less close as the white team dominated the field. Some highlights of the game were Kelsey Rothas and Izzy Klett scoring touchdowns for their team. The game ended with a score of 33-6, white team winning.

 

Girls Cross Country

The girls cross country team headed down to Palatine for a large invitational meet on September 18. 

The team ended up placing 17 out of the 29 teams competing, with Brooke Johnston placing 6th in the varsity race overall. Kristin Loftus, Hannah Laubach, and Ruby Lueras all placed within the top 100 as well. 

Next Monday the team will have an away duel against Lake Forest and Libertyville.

 

Boys Cross Country

The boys cross country team also took a trip to the Palatine course for an invite known as “The Meet of Champions.”

The team placed 7 out of 29 teams competing, with Barrington close behind them. The team was lead by Jacob Myers and Jack Gilboy, who individually placed 9th and 14th respectively. Corey Brend and Patrick Hart also gave a strong race with both of them running under 17 minute three miles.

The boys team will also be on the Lake Forest course next Monday.

 

Girls Volleyball

The girls volleyball team is already deep into their season, already playing a total of 19 games.

They had a tough battle against Libertyville during the October 2 home conference match, where Libertyville came out on top 2-0. Currently the team has a standing of 6-13, but with their upcoming match home match against Warren, they have a chance to be back on top.

The girls Volleyball team will be competing against Warren October 7.

 

Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team have had a rough season so far, but they always give it their all to either tie a game or get the score to be very close.

September 18, the boys soccer team tied in its game against Prospect with a score of 2-2. The following Thursday, the team lost its match against Mundelein, with a final score of 2-2. This previous Saturday team traveled to Rolling Meadows to put up a good fight that ultimately lead to a loss of 3-1. Thus far in the season the team has a standing of 3 wins, 9 loses, and 4 ties. They have notably beaten Warren, Lake Forest, and Boylan Catholic and have tied against teams like Vernon Hills and Saint Viator.

The team has a chance to win this Tuesday, October 8, when they face Waukegan in a home match.

 

Football

The boys football team is unstoppable as they have gone undefeated their past three games.

Friday, September 27, Lake Zurich made it difficult for Stevenson to keep up by going into halftime with a 21-7 lead. As third quarter approached great plays were made by many, including Justin Quast, who scored another flying touchdown for the team. Lake Zurich came out on top with a 28-20 lead against Stevenson.

Last Friday, October 5, Lake Zurich played their homecoming game against Libertyville. The Wildcats but up a good fight against the Bears, with the score constantly fluctuating between who was in the lead and who was losing. This game had some amazing highlights by Jack Moses, Jack Rigby and James Piggot. Libertyville attempted to score the winning points with a field goal 21 seconds left in the game, however they fell short and Lake Zurich came out victorious with a score of 24-22.

 

Girls Tennis 

The girls tennis team has been going strong this season.

Last Tuesday, October 1, the girls competed against Waukegan and came out with an incredible win with a score of 7-0.

The girls tennis team will have a home match against Hersey this Tuesday, October 8. They will also have their conference this Friday, October 11.

 

Girls Golf

The girls golf team has been having an amazing season so far by beating teams such as Grant and Waukeagan.

Last Wednesday the girls golf team had their conference game and had a close battle with Lake Forest in particular, losing by one point. The lowest scorers on the team included Bryana Hogan, Kiana Pouyat and Alyson Kee.

This Thursday, October 10, the girls golf team will have their regional at Harlem.

 

Boys Golf

The boys golf team has been playing very well this season against very tough competition.

This last Tuesday, October 1, the boys golf team competed in conference and got themselves a 6th place finish. The top 3 scorers of the team were Jake Michalak, Dylan Howell and Noah van Herik. Overall the team ended with a score of 336 for their conference.

Boys Golf will have their sectional next Saturday, October 12.
