Choir concert coming this week

All choirs except Bare Voices and Blue Notes will be performing on March 3 with a mix of songs, including many foreign ones. Admission is free for the concert that starts at 7:30 in the PAC.

“We have been preparing a lot of international songs. We are singing two in German, another in Hebrew, and some more in other languages. The songs bring more diversity to the concert and incorporates interesting vocabulary,” Griffin Brown, freshman in concert choir, said.

While many of the songs in the concert are from different cultures, there is also an acapella song, and an armed forces medley, according to Kaitlyn Kramer, freshman.

“We also sing a song about the armed forces and it always gets a positive reaction. It is a medley recognizing all the armed forces which are like the navy, army, and coast guard. It is basically a thanks to everyone in the military,” Brown said.

Since the end of finals, the choirs have been getting ready for this concert by preparing in class.

“We have been reviewing and reviewing songs and basic music theory, ever since the end of finals,” Kramer said.

The show is divided into different sections according to groups such as Cadet, Treble, Concert, Men’s, and Women’s, since each group has a repertoire of songs.

“For concert choir we are singing a song called “Nyon Nyon” that I’m really excited for. The song is very colorful and lively. However we are also singing a song that is very difficult called “Mata Del Anima Sola,” or tree of the lonely soul which is Spanish,” Cade Ryan, sophomore, said.

The grand finale is when all the groups come together and then perform a song.

“I’m excited about putting the pieces together that we have worked on for a really long time and getting to sing with everyone there,” Kramer said. “When we sing with everyone, because the seniors sing with us, we are really good and we think maybe we will sing like that one day.
