Tri-M musicians to perform simultaneous concerts throughout school

In honor of the nation-wide Music in Our Schools Month, the Tri-M National Music Honor Society will host the third annual mini concerts throughout the school during late start Mondays in March.

The concerts will be held starting Monday, March 7 near the main gym and main office, in the cafeteria, and in the B and S wings, according to Tri-M sponsor, Sheri Conover.

“[The concerts are] an offshoot of the nation experience that [the National Association for Music Education] were trying to have everybody take part in,” Conover said. “This [concert] just seems to make a lot of sense because of late start mondays and the abilities of students to be here and do it on their own without me having to run the show, since I’m in meetings.”

The performances are a great way for Tri-M students to prepare for the upcoming Solo and Ensemble Contest on March 5, according to Conover.

“They already have music and performance-ready material to use, and many of these same students are in other performance ensembles too. [They] are able to just pick up and move and play because they already do that,” Conover said.

The musicians also have the opportunity to show off to their classmates who do not know what the Lake Zurich music program does, says Becky Beiber, senior and Tri-M president.

“I like the performances because they spread awareness about our club around our the school, and our performances also give the students some early morning entertainment,” Beiber said. “They’re important to the music program at [Lake Zurich High School] because they spread awareness to the student body and give the students a taste of our music program and what we do.”
