Weekly Roundup: May 6-12

Girls Track and Field
The girls track and field team kept their momentum going strong this week as they hosted and competed at the IHSA Sectionals.
The team ended up placing third behind two extremely strong Huntley and Barrington teams. As for advancing to state, the team will send seven events to state next week. The 4×800 team advanced, Kelsey Rothas, junior, and Teagan Jones, junior, advanced in pole vault, Gretchen Quinn, junior, advanced in the 100-meter hurdles, Emily Burns, senior, advanced in the 3200-meters , Hayley Burk, sophomore, advanced in the 800-meters, Sydney Mark, senior, advanced in the 400-meters, and Izzy Klett, junior, advanced in the long jump.
The team will now end their season this weekend with the State Championships at Eastern Illinois University.
Allied Soccer
The Lake Zurich Allied soccer team had their first game on Saturday as they faced Warren at home.
The team was able to take an 8-7 victory over the Blue Devils. Andrew Koppel, transitions student, had a hat trick, Jeffery Murphy, transitions student, scored twice, Griffin Koppel, sophomore, scored once, and Paul Dzienis, sophomore, scored twice.
“It felt really good and I felt proud,” Griffin Koppel said about his goal following the game. “It was really fun being my first Lake Zurich game.”
The team will get one more chance to show off their skills as they will play again on Tuesday against Mundelein during the Bears Barbecue.
Boys Track and Field
It was the boys’ turn at the NSC Championships this week as the team competed at Zion-Benton.
The team ended up taking fifth at the event. Notable results include a conference championship in the 300-meter hurdles for Marek Enters, senior, a runner up finish in the 3200-meter run for Jack Gilboy, sophomore, a third-place finish in the high jump for Colin Kinsey, junior.
The team will now get set for Sectionals this week at Buffalo Grove High School on Thursday.
Girls Soccer
The girls’ soccer team had their regular season wind down to an end this past week as their next step is Regionals.
First, they had to get through this past week. The week started with an 8-0 blowout at Waukegan on Monday. They then took a tough 1-0 loss to Lake Forest on Wednesday to close out their conference season, and finally, the team ended their regular season on Thursday with a 3-0 loss to Grayslake North.
The team will start off their road to state on Tuesday at regionals as the four seed as they take on Palatine at Palatine.
Boys Volleyball
It was a big week for the boys’ volleyball team this week as they came across three huge wins heading into the final weeks of their regular season.
They first defeated Rolling Meadows at home on Monday 2-0. On Wednesday the team defeated Mundelein at home 2-0. The team closed out their week by defeating York on Saturday at the Willowbrook Invite on Saturday 2-1.
The team will now head into their final week of the regular season as they will face Waukegan and Grayslake Central. The team also learned their fate about the first round of the postseason this week, as they will be the five seed and will face Mundelein in the first round in two weeks.
Boys Lacrosse
The boys’ lacrosse team had a light week with only two games, but they sure made the most of it.
The week started off with a Wednesday night game on the road against a tough Stevenson team where the Bears out-battled the school-rival Patriots 4-2 in a defensive showdown. The second game of the week came in a big 14-4 defeat of Bartlett on home turf on Saturday.
The team will now get set for the final week of their regular season as they will get a double dosage of Grayslake: Grayslake Central on Tuesday, and Grayslake North on Thursday. The team also will be the five seed when the postseason begins in two weeks.
Girls Lacrosse
The girls lacrosse team had a tough week on the turf, as they went 0-3 in their three games.
The week started off with a tough 15-5 loss to Glenbrook North on Monday at home, followed by a 19-13 loss to Stevenson on Wednesday. The week finished off with a close 14-12 loss against Metea Valley on Friday.
The team will now also head into their final regular season game on Monday against St. Viator on the road. The team will be the number 5 seed heading into the postseason in two weeks.
Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team is now in the home stretch of the season, having played in the NSC Championships this past week.
Out of the eight teams in the conference, the Bears fought finished in fourth in conference play.
The team will now get set for sectionals on Friday as they will travel to Stevenson in hopes of clinching a spot at State.
Baseball
The baseball team made the most out of their four-game week, going 3-1 in the six-day span.
The week started off strong as the team took a big 12-2 victory over Mundelein on the road on Monday as Iowa commits, Tyler Snep, senior, and Anthony Mangano, junior, combined for three home runs. Snep went 2-for-2 with two long-balls, and Mangano went 1-for-4 with his hit being a trip around the bases. Game two against Mundelein was a different story as the team won a close one 6-5 at home. The team then traveled to Evanston where a late score cost the Bears the game. The week ended with a big 11-3 victory over Hoffman Estates on Saturday.
The team, now 17-9, will now get two games against Waukegan and one against Fremd this week before getting set for the IHSA Postseason where they will be the six seed.
Softball
This week for the softball team was a short one, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be an exciting one.
The week started with an 8-1 loss to Libertyville where an early Wildcat lead was too much to handle. Game two was an exciting matchup at home versus Warren where Julia Zaucha, senior, hit the walk-off to win it 4-3.
The team, now 13-10, will get set to finish their regular season as they will take on Mundelein and Waukegan this week. The team will also be the six seed for the Hampshire IHSA Sectional in two weeks.
