This fall, Chic Cafe & Crepes opened in downtown Lake Zurich. Although it is a small business, it has a big menu. The cafe is on the smaller side, but the inside is home to delicate crepes, silky gelato, and coffee. As I walked in, I was met with a warm, welcoming greeting, along with smiles from the other staff members.
Atmosphere
The entire front wall of the shop were windows, which allowed the shop to be naturally lit and bright. When you walked in, you could smell fresh crepes that came straight from the kitchen. The cafe was very well kept, with clean tables, organized displays of their menu, and fun decor on the walls.
Savory
The first crepe I tried was their original cheese crepe. Inside the crepe, there was cheese, egg, and Italian vinaigrette. The combination of the three compliment each other very nicely, and the small hint of vinaigrette gives a powerful impact to the crepes.
The egg was cooked to perfection, and paired very well with the cheese that filled the crepe. The outside was a thin crepe that had a small hint of sweetness to contrast the savory of the cheese.
Sweet
For the sweet, I had the Nutella & banana crepe. The inside was full of Nutella, and banana slices were sprinkled throughout. The excess Nutella was very sweet, but the ripe bananas helped cut a little bit of the sweetness.
The actual crepe pastry was the same as the cheese, thinly sliced, with a small taste of sweetness, to add to the flavor of the Nutella and bananas.
Overall
In the end, the crepes were absolutely amazing, the cafe was organized and clean, and the staff was kind and welcoming. I didn’t get a chance to try everything but their five star reviews for their coffee and gelato definitely made a good impression on me and I can’t wait to go back and try some new things from their huge menu!
