Superheroes soar into theaters

Superheroes+soar+into+theaters

Within the course of three months, the Avengers will assemble, Spider-Man’s spider-sense will tingle, and Batman will have no limits.

The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man are based on the Marvel universe, whereas The Dark Knight Rises is DC based.

The Avengers:   The Avengers, May 4, combines seven superheroes: The Hulk, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Captain America, and Thor. The Avengers is rated PG-13.

“The Avengers are a team of [Marvel’s] popular superheroes,” Linnea Lueken, junior and Marvel fan, said. “Since there’s a national security threat, a group, The Avengers, is put together to put down the evil. Marvel has many more heroes, but they stuck with the most famous ones for the movie.”

    The Amazing Spider-Man:

The Amazing Spider-Man, July 3, is mostly based on the “untold story” of Peter Parker, the main character, and will be available in 3D. It will be the fourth Spider-Man movie released in theaters and is rated PG-13.

“[The Amazing Spider-Man] centers on Peter, and brings up things that aren’t in the 2001 movie, like the relationship between him and his parents. He’s also not biologically made into Spider-Man, he builds the machine for it,” Lueken said.

Additionally, Andrew Garfield will take on the role of Spider-Man instead of Tobey Maguire, who played Spiderman in the last three movies.

“I think I’ll like Garfield better than Maguire; he’s the right age,” Lueken said. “Many of the most recent comics show Peter as being in high school, so Garfield would be more suited for that.”

      The Dark Knight Rises:

The Dark Knight Rises, July 30, will be the last movie in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. The movie will pick up where The Dark Knight ended, meaning Bruce Wayne, played by Christian Bale, resigning as Batman. It is rated PG-13.

“[The Dark Knight Rises] is a lot different than [The Dark Knight]. In The Dark Knight, a lot of things came together. The second film is usually the strongest point in a trilogy,” Michael Wormley, junior and batman fan, said. “It’s hard for this trilogy to be judged objectively. I don’t think [The Dark Knight Rises] will be as good as The Dark Knight, but it’s going to be a good movie, with good elements from its predecessors.”

The movie will also include a new character, Catwoman, played by Anne Hathaway, which has caused some controversy.

“Anne Hathaway is awesome. She is a fantastic actress,” Wormley said. “The troubling part in having her be Catwoman isn’t her playing the role itself. It’s the fact that [the movie] will have so many villains [such as Bane and Catwoman]; there’s less time for character development.”
