The Orchesis team practices in their dance room to prepare for their annual showcase. Working together is the most important way for them to succeed, Katie Bower, junior, said.

The Orchesis dance team takes the audience through their year’s worth of routines on February 10 and 11, in their annual showcase. The performance will showcase all the dances the team has been working on between August and January and is hosted in the PAC.

“I think [the performance] is to show everyone what Orchesis is about and to tell everyone it’s a really fun way to get to know people and it’s also a chance to dance,” Katie Bower, junior, said.

Dancing is a major aspect for the showcase, but without teamwork, Orchesis would not be able to perform as well as they do, Bower said.

“It’s definitely important to work together, especially in our dances you need to be able to communicate with each other,” Bower said. “It’s really important to have good relations with people and the team and actually connect with them.”

The communication allows for the team to perform their range of dances from jazz and lyrical to hip hop and musical theater, Madison Flores, senior, said.

“We perform four guest choreographed pieces from professional choreographers. I am so excited to perform all of the dances every has been working so hard on for months,” Flores said.

While this showcase is an event many members of the team look forward to, for seniors it marks their last time performing all of their dance routines with their friends.

“I am super excited for my last show,” Flores said. “I have been in Orchesis all four years of high school and this show will definitely be bittersweet knowing how close I’ve grown to the entire team.”

Over the years the team has been able to bond and grow close to each other, making the goodbye for seniors so hard.

“[I love] knowing that all of us are a family and we’ve worked so hard on our dances and can’t wait for everyone to see them,” Flores said. “I will miss seeing everyone on the team every week after school and spending so much time together.”

Although seniors will miss certain memories, the showcase is an opportunity for all for the Orchesis dancers to perform and demonstrate everything they have been working on this year.

With the practiced routine and close, bonded teammates, the showcase is expected to run with flawless faces and tuneful turns.
