Studying for school or skiing the slopes?

The weather getting colder and snow making its first appearance, marks the beginning of ski club. The club that was created just to have fun, has its first meeting this week, and anyone is welcome. Skiing, snowboarding, and meeting new people is just a few of the things ski club members participate in.

“We have a meeting on December 16, right after school in the college and career center in the counseling office,” Craig Lehigh, counselor and ski club coordinator, said. “All they need to do is show up, get an information packet, hear about our trips, and turn in their permission slip and their money by a certain date.”

As ski club coordinator, Lehigh makes the arrangements with the resorts on how many students are coming. So far ski club has planned three trips this year, weather permitting, Lehigh said.

“We are just looking forward to after school heading up to one of the mountains up in Wisconsin and spending the rest of the evening up there,” Lehigh said. “We usually come back around 11ish. [Students] can go off and ski on their own without me. A lot of them go to the training park and have fun there. They know when the busses are taking off again because we want them back at a certain time, which is usually the time the resort closes.”

Ski club has been a club for around fifteen years, and since then the club has been to places like Devil’s Head, Wilmont, Alpine, and Chestnut. This year they are planning for just Alpine and Wilmont, according to Lehigh.

Lehigh is not the only one excited. Ignacy Paprocki, senior president of ski club, organizes meetings, helps plan trips, and promotes the club.

“The club is about going on a ski trip to different resorts and having a good time with friends,” Paprocki said. “[You should join ski club] because it’s not a big time commitment and you can meet new people. I personally enjoy skiing and having a good time with friends.”
