Girls bowling, raising money to support team

Girls bowling is holding their annual team fundraiser at the Brunswick Zone bowling alley on Saturday in order to help fund the club.

“I’m really excited because it’s a time where our team comes together to raise money for bowling,”  Amanda Tarlos, junior bowler, said. “[We] try to get as many people as we can to come and bowl and have a good time [while they] help us raise money.

Every year, for the last past 13 years, girl’s bowling has wanted to improve their fundraising because it directly helps the team, according to Tarlos.

“[The money] goes towards the team’s needs. We can buy shirts for the team, or if we want to go for breakfast before a tournament; basically anything that the team would need,” Tarlos said.

This annual fundraiser is usually successful, according to  Becky Mnichowicz, sophomore bowler.

“We make around $300-$500 every year,” Mnichowicz said. “We usually have enough to buy sweatshirts and team shirts.”

Anyone who wants to bowl from 7pm to 12am pays $13, and approximately $5 are donated to girls bowling. The number of people who come to support the team by bowling will play a big part in the fundraiser, Mnichowicz said.

But bowling is not the only way a person can help raise money for the team.

“[Participating in this event will] also be fun because we raffle off gifts that we bring in to give to people, which is another fun way to raise money,” Tarlos said.
