Visiting Chicago’s world famous Adler Planetarium, the Astronomy class will be able to  increase their knowledge.

Students will be working in a real-world environment with practicing astronomers when they visit on Friday, December 11.

“I’m most excited about learning more about the planets, how they came to be, and why we only have eight because we don’t have Pluto again,” Hannah Wach, junior in the class, said.

Students will be missing eight periods of the day, both Wach and Stefano Ukleba, another junior in the class, believe the event will be “worth it” though.

“We’ve been learning about stars and the universe.  We started with constellations and then star formations, star deaths, and we’ve talked about black holes and how the universe was created,” Wach said.

The class itself is preparing the students for this particular field trip.

“[Being in the class] gives me more insight than what a tour guide probably wouldn’t give us [at the Planetarium].  It gives me a better understanding about where stars come from, what planets come from, and I’m prepared to be talking about extraterrestrial life too,” Wach said.

The field trip may be some students’ first time visiting the Adler Planetarium, like Wach’s, giving them excitement for the unknown; however, Ukleba is one of the students that is excited to revisit it.

“I’m interested in Astronomy and that is what I want to major in.  My favorite part is learning about the planets and constellations,” Ukleba said.  “I liked it the last time I went, when I was probably thirteen, and I learned more about galaxies and other star clusters.”
