Five members of Science Club recently qualified to continue from Regionals to Sectionals.

Seniors Lissa Mandell, Kaitlyn Etienne, Adam Michael, and sophomores Ryan Thorne, and Sarah Ditton all placed either first or second at Regionals. Mandell placed second in Biology and Ditton placed first in Biology. Both qualified for the state WYSE competition.

“We went to Vernon Hills High School for Sectionals and since Sarah Ditton is such a genius and I took AP Bio last year, I wasn’t even expecting to place,” Mandell said.

The state competition is scheduled to be on April 15 at the University of Illinois.

“We get to go to U of I, and it’s really fun,” Mandell said. “Even if you don’t get first place, it doesn’t mean you aren’t good at something. Biology’s my chosen field and I don’t need to be at the top if what I do is important.”
