The new iAgent and his unexpected background

The man is known as an iAgent in school, but his personal hobbies extend beyond his interest in technology.

Nick Myers, iAgent, has only been working at this school since June, helping students with problems they may have when it comes to their iPad and guiding student iAgents when they need it. When talking about Myers’s background, it may not completely match one of the other iAgents.

“I actually went to college for aviation and I got my private pilot’s license. After that first year, I kind of realized flying was more of a hobby than a career choice,” Myers said. “It’s really expensive and I felt more comfortable going into education and teaching and knowing that on the weekend, or pretty much any time I want, I can go rent a plane and fly it.”

This hobby may seem like a topic he would discuss often with his student iAgents, but he decided to tell them, instead, about his past experience as a bus driver.

“It doesn’t surprise me that he’s a licensed pilot because he told us he can drive a school bus, but I’m not at all saying that a bus is like a plane,” Mikayla Reilly, senior iAgent, said. “I guess that just makes sense since because he seems to be  interested in driving alternative transportation which is really cool.”

His areas of expertise expand beyond plane flying.

“I have a teaching license and I taught physical education for a couple years [at the school and] I kind of stepped into the role of Technology Coordinator and managed all of the technology, including the one-to-one iPad initiative,” Myers said. “I’ve always kind of been a tinkerer and I’ve always been interested in technology and how it relates to education.”

Although Myers is no longer a teacher, Reilly believes his personality still has tell-tale signs that he was one once.

“He’s definitely got the PE teacher personality,” Reilly said. “He’s just always trying to get people involved and stuff, he’s always ready to go, and he’s always really positive.”

Even with his positive, ready-to-go attitude, he tries not to let the little things worry him.

“I’m kind of laid back, kind of easy going, but also detail oriented. I make sure I get everything done and try to get all my ducks in a row, but I like to think I’m not super stressed about it as I do it,” Myers said. “There are stressful moments, but if every moment is a stressful moment then it’s not worth it.”

With every stressful moment, there may be a happier, more memorable one that helps better define Myers relationship with his student iAgents, Reilly said.

“It’s hard to pick a favorite moment with Mr. Myers,” Reilly said. “Tomorrow at work, I know there will be another moment with him that will turn into my favorite moment.”
