Each week, Bear Facts will post an article from a past issue.  These articles can demonstrate what life was like for a high school student in that year.  What seemed important to them that seems commonplace now? This article ran in September  1997.

Each fall, as school begins again, the student body comes back and quickly gets comfy to LZHS routine: 5 days a week crammed with classes, hectic schedules, and Friday night football games. Things get back to the way they were the previous year. However, along with the old comes the introduction of the new. This fall, the LZHS music department is proud to present its latest addition, Bare Voices!

Bare Voices! Is a 19-member vocal jazz group directed by Ron Velleur, LZHS choir and orchestra director.

Interested students auditioned last year a few weeks before school got out and the 19 most qualified musicians were chosen. The week before school began, a 4 day Bare Voices! camp was help for the purpose of learning music and learning how to use the new sound system.

Over the summer, the school approved and granted permission to the music department to purchase a new system estimated at over $14,000 for Bare Voices!. Each singer has his own microphone, which has an amazing effect on the groups sound.

Bare Voices! Performs a large variety of music. Although jazz is the main focus, selections from the musical Rent and The Jackson Five are also on the groups repertoire. Rehearsals are 3 mornings a week at 7 A.M. Bare Voices! Plans to do concerts in and around the community and already performed its first gig on September 13 in Paulus Park for the Ela Area Arts Fest. A performance at the Homecoming Pep Rally on September 26 is also scheduled.

This latest addition to the music department is one taht should not be overlooked. Bare Voices! Is a group worth hearing.
