Cyber Monday tops the charts in shopping history

Black Friday has almost become its own holiday.  The day of “unbelievable sales” no longer begins at midnight, but now hours before hand, taking over Thanksgiving for those who celebrate it.  As a tag-on to Black Friday comes Cyber Monday, the online shopping spree, where the companies’ best deals now appear in their online stores.  These business-created holidays are taking over the celebrations generations have been a part of for years.

This year, Cyber Monday sales reached two billion dollars, continuing the record of Cyber Monday being the biggest online shopping day of the year since 2010, according to the Huffington Post report.  With advertisements for deals on Cyber Monday starting at the beginning of November, Huffington Post created a list of stores with the best deals like Google Play, Ralph Lauren, and Crocs.

Although buying and selling can only improve the economy, it is not always worth missing time with family and friends on a holiday all about being thankful.  As people sit on computers for hours on end, trying to get the best deals they can, they are missing out on time spent with family, friends, and those who they care about.

Now that the weekend extravaganza has come to a close, it should be the perfect time for people to set aside the time for intangible objects.  There will never be “the biggest sale” on the time spent with someone you care about, and it only costs your time and energy away from the consumerism-controlled world.
