Americans’ use of technology is hazardous to health

Americans use of technology is hazardous to health

Over 60 percent of Americans are considered obese, more than any other country People overlook the health problems too much technology can cause. Americans need to get more exercise but our advance in technology has left people too lazy to care.

“Some cultures or countries eat more, but those same countries aren’t as tied to technology as Americans are and get enough exercise to burn of the calories from the food they eat,” fitness instructor Yurily Snetkov from Fitness19 said. “So, [an American’s] diet might not be the problem, but it’s their exercise.”

People in other countries are said to be healthier and less overweight than the people in America. People in other countries have smaller food portions and do not rely as much on technology.

Even though America is one of the leading fast food consumers, researchers believe that fast food is not the main cause of obesity in America.

According to a team of economists from the Institute of Economic Research at Harvard University, technology is the main cause of obesity in America, not the food people eat.

People in America do not spend enough time outside, according to researchers in the University of California.

Most children and teens are inside on the computer or playing video games instead of going out with their friends. Even adults rely too much on technology, like cell phones, computers, and public transportation, which takes time away from exercise.

Driving everywhere, whether you need to or not, instead of going for a walk or a bike ride is relying too much on technology. When people are always on their cell phones, talking to their friends or conducting a business instead of actually seeing them in person, is relying too much on technology.

“We don’t walk as much as people in other countries do, and we rely more on public transportation,” Snetkov said. “Other countries are probably not as technologically advanced as [America] is, so they don’t rely on technology as much. It is actually beneficial to them when it comes to health.”

Americans need to step up their game and step away from all the technology sometimes. America does not have to be known as the most obese country. People need to get more exercise and not develop laziness from relying too much on technology.

“I recommend people spend less time relying on technology and go outside more often. Food and diet isn’t necessarily the problem when it comes to obesity, it’s the lack of exercise,” Snetkov said.

Instead of relying on transportation to go to restaurants people should have more home cooked meals. Making food at home is a great way to take time away from technology and have something healthy to eat.

People can also join a local gym, go for a walk every morning, anything to get away from technology and be active. Cutting back on junk foods and getting some exercise will help Americans with their health.

There is no reason to stay home all the time playing video games or watching TV when it is a beautiful day outside. Although advances in technology have made lives easier, it may have made lives shorter as well.
