“[Although the team as a whole is not undefeated,] Maggie and I as a doubles pair are doing really well. We won the first five games of the season against Schaumburg, Fremd, Mount Prospect, Palatine, and Grant [High Schools] respectively. We’ve only lost one game so far and that was against Hersey,” Pryhuber said.

Although the two have never played as a pair before this season, Pryhuber said the two worked well together instantly.

“We had already worked together in basketball for years, so it just felt natural,” Pryhuber said. “When the coach had us do practice matches together for the first time, we just never lost.”

Hilton agrees that she believes the two play so well together because they were friends before being tennis partners.

“We can usually agree on a good strategy and are open to new ideas,” Hilton said. “I think our strong point as a team is that we are mentally tough. We always pick each other up and stay positive as well as focused.”

Although the two will continue to practice and improve as a team, they are both excited for the rest of the season and working together as partners, according to Hilton.

“I like that people call us ‘yin and yang.’ We both have different playing styles and different strengths,” Hilton says. “I think that’s what makes our doubles team unique.”
