The boys’ varsity baseball team has started up this year’s season with several new changes.

“The biggest change [to our team this year] is how much more we are focusing on our pitching and how we’re trying to set a goal for every pitcher each week,” Nick Sanders, junior and varsity baseball captain, said. “We also picked captains in the beginning of the season instead of waiting.”

According to Austin Wells, junior and varsity baseball player, his goal is making a steady transition for each game played.

“I hope our team makes a smooth transition from the spring season into conference,” Wells said. “We’ve got some big conference games [coming up against] some big teams.”

Along with new goals, there are going to be new changes made to the field, as well.

“We’re fixing our pitching mound,” Sanders said. “We’re going to make it a lot better than last years because there’s going to be a lot announcing during the games.”

“We have become close as teammates because we have been playing ball together for our whole lives,” Wells said. “It’s a really cool thing to be playing with the kids that you have known your whole entire life.”

According to Sanders, the team is best described through the movie Sandlot.

“[We’re like] Sandlot because it shows not only are we a team, but we’re friends, too,” Sanders said. “We do stuff together outside of baseball, as well.”
