Annual Charity Bash Talent Show to raise money for Alexander Leigh Center for Autism

The annual Charity Bash talent show is tomorrow in the PAC at 7 pm to benefit the Alexander Leigh Center for Autism. The show will feature various acts from students and staff with one surprise act.

Tickets at the door are $5.00 and all proceeds go to this year’s Charity Bash. In the even, there are multiple awards given out: Judges Choice, First place, and Second place, varying each year.

“Last year’s show had six standing ovations. This year’s show should be just as good. And this year we welcome back faculty band Iron Rose to entertain the crowd,” Christopher Bennett, student council sponsor, said.

Iron Rose, a cover band made up of social studies teachers Pete Turnes, George McNails, and Michael Kaufman, and science teacher Jeff Kettinger made their debut in 2004. They ave been on hiatus since 2010.

“Performing as Izzy from Iron Rose is a weird, cool rush. We have a blast bringing the entire LZHS community together through 80s hair-band music,” Turnes said.

Although there will be faculty performances, the talent show focuses on what really matters; the students. Francesca Castro, junior, was one of the members of the band Above Four, who won Battle of the Bands. This year will be her third time performing in the talent show, after singing “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars last year.

This year, Castro is using “a looper, an effect that allows the musician to record what they are playing and then loop it while they play over the top, to record multiple voices. Then I use guitar and vocals over that.”

Castro is also one in a range of different acts performing each year; from musical to comedy. But the majority of the acts are musical, she says.

“There are mostly singing acts and some people play their guitars. There was one where there was like a jam session with the band,” Castro said.

Every year the audience is always really supportive of everyone performing, Castro said.

“The audience always cheers really loud and are so excited to see everyone perform, so they get a lot of support,” Castro said.

To support Castro, Iron Rose, and the Alexander Leigh Center for Autism, be in the PAC when doors open.
