Students were able to speak with Joelle Charbonneau during last year’s author visit. Many authors like Charbonneau, and other authors of different genres will be speaking at this year’s Writer’s Day event.

Writer’s Day, a “day-long celebration of writing with professional authors and poets, student writers, and faculty writers,” will be taking place December 1.

This is the school’s first time hosting the event, which brings a variety of professional young adult authors to students to “teach and inspire them to read and write,” Amy Pine, librarian, said.

“I think concentrating one specific day on writing and being able to showcase different genres creates a community of writing between students and faculty that you wouldn’t normally get in something like a mandatory English class or elective,” Pine said.

Students like Elisa Krause, sophomore, are “excited to see a new event like Writer’s Day start and hopefully continue to see the event every year.”

“Writing and reading is like an escape for a lot of people, including myself,” Krause said. “I think it’s cool that the school decided to incorporate an event like this into the school year and hear what people like real authors experience.”

According to Pine, students will be able to hear various authors share their writing and writing experiences during English classes, study halls, lunches, and open periods in the PAC.

“I hope kids get inspired to write. I hope kids that are already writing, get inspired to share,” Pine said. “ In general, I hope that students and faculty see that there are a lot of different avenues that writing can lead you towards outside of high school and college.”
