Two boys face off in a game of hamster ball soccer. The soccer games and a relay race were two of the activities made possible by the outdoor assembly.

Students will fill the stadium stands twice this Friday – once for the Homecoming game, of course, but also during school for the Homecoming assembly.

Besides the usual attractions like boys poms, the senior athlete dance, and various dance team performances, Student Council has some plans to make this Homecoming assembly special.

“First and foremost, we are hoping to do it outside, like we used to back in the old days,” Christopher Bennett, Student Council sponsor, said. “We haven’t done it outside [since] 2003, because we just didn’t fit in the bleachers anymore. Now that we have bleachers that can fit our entire student body, we want to go back outside.”

Student Council hopes to use the fields to its full advantage to make the assembly memorable.

“Being outside allows us to do some things we couldn’t do inside,” Bennett said. “We’re still putting that together. We’re hoping we’re going to have some kind of surprise activities. Some simple ideas would be water or make a mess, because you can easily clean it up.”

There are also special events unique to the Homecoming Assembly, though every assembly is different. The senior poms girls helped to choreograph the boys poms team, who will perform Friday, completing the Powderpuff role reversal.

“I think it’s interesting how in general, for Homecoming, the girls are the ones who play football and the boys are the ones who do poms,” Michaella Anderson, senior poms captain, said. “It’s a really interesting role change. Homecoming is a big backwards week. It’s a special week, all the hallways are decorated, there’s a lot of fun stuff going on. This is the most fun week of the whole year.”
