Alvin Pham, junior, and Patrick True, sophomore, are starting a basketball club to raise money for charity. With other sports taking up time, Pham and True are trying to pursue their passion in Basketball without joining the school team.

Everyday students find ways to impact our school. Alvin Pham, junior, and Patrick True, sophomore, are just steps away from successfully starting their “Ball Gives Life” club, which they hope will have a lasting impact on the school.

“It looks good for college but Patrick and I aren’t looking for that. We just want to have an impact on the school and help other people. We also think it’s a really cool idea and were both passionate about [basketball],” Pham said.

The boys are in the process of organizing a club which students can join to play basketball while raising money for local charities.

“Alvin and I both had a passion for basketball, but he plays tennis and I run cross country, so we wanted to start a club that’s not full time basketball but involves the sport so we can still play,” True said.

By organizing scrimmage basketball games and five on five tournaments, students can join to play or join to volunteer with the organization of tournaments. This gives students the opportunity to be social and get involved in their school community.

“Our goal for the club is to raise money for charity, but also make it for other students like us who enjoy playing basketball but they’re involved in other sports and don’t have time” True said.

With nearly 70 students already signed up for the aspiring club, Pham and True hope to successfully launch their club as soon as possible to start raising money for charity, while having fun doing so.
