Studio Theatre class presents yearly showcase

Can’t make it to the spring musical? No worries! You can still catch another show this May. The Studio Theatre class will present its showcase May 1 and 2 at 7pm in the drama room, PA107. The show’s script is inspired by local 2nd graders, according to Gena Nigro, senior in Studio Theatre.

“We went to May Whitney and worked with the 2nd grade class to make short stories,” Nigro said. “Those short stories we turned into mini plays and musicals, and we put those together [for one show].”

The Studio Theatre class is completely student run from the set to the costumes.

“Everything we have comes out of our own pocket or a budget from Mr. [Ryan] Rubenstein [assistant principal for student activities and facilities],” Nigro said. “Other than that, we have the same responsibilities for costumes, responsibilities for set, and responsibilities for all the production means.”

Some of Nigro’s personal responsibilities include assisting with acting, writing, and self directing, and memorizing lines in addition to helping with blocking, costumes arrangement, and script writing.

“[I’m looking forward to the] creative energy, because it’s not your typical play,” Nigro said. “[I am] looking forward to that and feedback from audience. We’re performing for those 2nd graders, and I want to see their reaction because it’s their work that we’re performing.”
