Band concert to be held Wednesday, March 4

All three sections of band will have a concert on Wednesday, March 4 in the PAC.

The concert will begin at 7:30pm, and concert band, symphonic band, and wind and ensemble band will each perform a minimum of three songs, making a total of nine songs in the concert.

“Some of [the songs] will be marches, some of them will be high energy feature pieces,” Sheri Conover, assistant band director, said.

The band began preparations for this concert in late December, after their holiday concert.

“[We’ve been preparing by] reading through several pieces of music, a variety of types and styles, and started practicing different pieces based on need,” Conover said. “We’ve been working on balancing sections and making sure everything is in tune.”

The songs will be programmatic, meaning if the audience pays attention to them, they create a picture of what is happening in the music, according to Conover.

“I’m looking forward to showing the audience how we have improved with new songs,” Tara Wilkes, sophomore in symphonic band, said.

Faculty and students in band encourage their fellow classmates to attend the concert.

“I firmly believe that it’s important to support fellow students, and it’s a good experience to learn how to go to a concert and have proper etiquette,” Conover said. “I think they’ll really enjoy this music because there is a really wide variety [of songs].”
