Habitat for Humanity kicks off fundraising week

From December 8 through December 12, Habitat for Humanity will start its ACT! SPEAK! BUILD! week to fundraise and raise awareness for the club.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds and renovated homes for families in need, according to Allison Sung, senior president.

“[It’s] a week dedicated to inspiring young people to inform themselves, speak up, and take action in helping their communities,” Sung said.

The school will be decorated with posters containing “Habifacts” about the organization and statistics about how the club improves the lives of others in need.

During the week, a “Big Red House” will be held by members at the ends of lunch lines during lunch periods collecting donations.

“This is especially important because in order to go help and build and restore homes and communities, we need to contribute to the organization financially,” Sung said.

The most popular fundraising activity is the candy gram sales where students can send candy canes to friends with little messages, according to Sung. The candy grams will then be delivered before winter break in their classes.

“Our goal for this overall year is to raise $4500,” Sung said.

Each member of the club is required to fundraise $10 during ACT! SPEAK! BUILD! week on their own for maximum results.

To get involved with ACT! SPEAK! BUILD! week, you can always donate during lunch periods next week. To get involved with the club, you can contact any of the officers (Allison Sung, Danielle Ufheil, Chris Choi, Christina Eddleman). Habitat for Humanity meets on the first and third Tuesdays of every month.
