During third period, the child development class takes the preschoolers around the school to sing to the class and receive candy. On Thursday, the four year olds were taken around the school, and today, the three year olds get their turn.

“I send out an email and we go to teachers who say they want to participate,” Rosemary Caparelli, Child Development teacher and Preschool coordinator, said. “[On Thursday] we went to 15 different classes and offices. We stay on the first floor because the little kids can’t go up the steep stairs.”

The preschool has been trick-or-treating around the high school for 15 years. Caparelli continues to do it because the children enjoy it, and it promotes child development.

“The teens in the class are the ones who run the whole thing. They plan the parties, the lessons, read spooky stories, and set up the activities. The teens love it just as much as the preschoolers because they ask me if they can stay the whole time.”

Other than the fun activities, the preschoolers dress up and show off their Halloween costumes, according to Caparelli.

“I saw the cutest candy corn costume [on Thursday],” Caparelli said. “This year there were a lot of Frozen costumes along with Spongebob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Hulk, and a pumpkin.”
