Pregnant teachers choose color for nursery

Preparing for a baby does not just mean consistent doctor appointments and scheduling birthing classes. Getting the nursery prepared and ready for the baby is a large part of women’s pregnancy.

Julie Osterhaus, English teacher, is going to be a new mother to twins. She is going to have two girls. To ease life for her and her husband they found out the sex of her children was and planned the colors to their nursery accordingly.

“Because there’s two we wanted to be more prepared, and [because] it’s our first [time having kids],” Osterhaus said.

For her twins, she chose pink and green as the nursery colors. Along with the colors, she plans on adding elements from Chronicles of Narnia, because of her love for the book series.

“Three of the walls are green and there’s one pink wall,” Osterhaus said. “The pink is kind of the accent color [to the nursery].”

According to, Osterhaus, those colors have a vintage feel that will compliment her cottage style home built in the 1920’s.

Meghan Reynolds, world cultures and English, is also pregnant. This her second time finding out the gender of the child.

“It’s a boy, [I found out] to plan the room,” Reynolds said. “To be able to plan ahead and buy the necessary items, clothing, and accessories, and just to have the room completed before he is born is something that is really important to me.”

For Reynolds, she believes that because of all the new mom stress she wants to make her pregnancy as easy as possible. Her nursery will be navy blue and grey with red and white accents.

For Reynolds first child, she found out she was going to have a girl. She painted the girls room lavender.

“My nurseries are very plain,” Reynolds said. “I like the primary colors.”

If Reynolds did not know the gender of the baby she was having, she would be stumped on how to go about the nursery.

“I don’t know what I would do, probably a light green or something,” Reynolds said.
