Students came to the football field expecting an ordinary movie night, but also got to share a sense of communion while waiting out the storm with peers.

Despite the setback of a mild lightning storm, students enjoyed a night of a heroic movie, friendship, and fun to get everyone into the superhero Homecoming theme.

Students grew apprehensive as lightning was visible behind the projection of The Incredibles on Thursday night, but they did not seem to mind the brief intermission that occurred only a few minutes after the movie started.

Murmurs of discontent could be heard layering over each other as students chattered on the field, spitefully daring the first raindrops to fall and the lightning to inch closer.

“We definitely weren’t expecting it; it didn’t say anywhere in the forecast,” Merrick Howarth, Student Council president, said.  “We’re learning from our mistakes and next year I think we’ll be more prepared if it happens again next year.”

Before Bob Parr, Mr.Incredible’s alter ego in The Incredibles, was fired, everyone was called inside to wait out the brief storm that passed over the school, including the football field where the event took place.

The movie, which started at 7:30pm, was able to resume at 8:19 after the storm passed over. Even though this was only the second outdoor movie night that’s been hosted at LZHS, current, and even past students have already found a special place for it in their hearts.
“I really like the whole aesthetic of everyone sitting on the football field. And you don’t really know who’s sitting next to you,” Shelby Rigsby, 2015 graduate, said. “It could be someone you don’t even really like. But you’re still sitting there watching movies with them, and I think that’s kinda cool.”
