From freshman to varsity: A senior’s journey through high school sports

Ruthie Rosenkranz senior, has run countless miles during her journey from freshman to varsity track and cross country teams, and plans to travel even farther.

“Freshman year I did a lot, habitat for humanity, interact, freshman class board, cross country and track,” Rosenkranz, said. “When I started I wasn’t fast at all and the seniors really scared me, but I became really close to all of them because when you’re running six or so miles with someone you really get to know them.”

All the girls on track and cross country are like a family according to Rosenkranz and they help each other meet goals, cheer one another on, and are her number one fans.

“This year I’d say one of my biggest accomplishments was finally making varsity, which I didn’t think could do but Christina Edelman whose been on varsity for awhile, would go into the weight room everyday before school and help me. Also as captain something that was really important to me was earning the trust of them team and being worthy of the girl’s respect, which I think I accomplished. I have become closer to all of them this season and hopefully they’ll miss me next year,” Rosenkranz, said.

Rosenkranz has always enjoyed being a role model/leader, so that has led her to being captain for track and cross country as well as doing P.E. Leadership this year.
“Next year I plan to attend ISU with a major in nursing and a minor in computer science. I’m still debating on running there because I’m fast but I’m not that fast,” Rosenkranz, said. “Though I look forward to possibly walking onto the team, so I can be apart of a great team, meet people and they give out cool swag.”
