The community is united through those who help it

Taking care of the town and those who live here is seen as important to some and can help leave a lasting impression.

Showing pride in the school you attend, helping at the local church, and just showing care for others are some of the ways people can help the place they call home.

“Taking part in the community is important to me because I live here and I feel like it’s my duty to give back.” Gena Nigro, said.

Nigro partakes in community events specifically through her church St. Francis De Sales. She leads retreats, attends youth ministry nights, and volunteers to help others as often as she can.

“Working with St. Francis benefited me as a person because it made me appreciate everyone in the community and I learned a lot about myself along the way,” Nigro said.

From here she became less judgmental of others and had more compassion for herself and peers.

“[I] have an automatic respect for everyone I meet,” Nigro said. “Everyone is facing some sort of battle, and by respecting and showing friendship towards them you could be changing their lives.”

Nigro feels that it satisfying to help others because she knows her acts of goodwill can be positive things in others’ lives. Not only is the deed nice to her, but the way it can bring others together as well.

“I also think it draws people together and makes our community stronger because people are relying on each other which builds trust and strong bonds of friendship,” Nigro, said.
