Shrek comes out of the swamp, onto the stage

shrek cmyk (Medium)The student production of Shrek the Musical  will be held in the PAC for four separate performances on February 6, 7, and 8. Tickets are on sale on the LZHS website.

Students have been working on this adaptation of the popular cartoon movie since late October, according to Mary Sinclair, senior and student music director, and everything has been running as expected.

“The songs and dances are improving every day and we are so excited to open,” Sinclair said. “Our major goal is to tell the wonderful story of Shrek to young audiences the best we can, and we are getting closer every day to reaching that goal.”

One reason why rehearsals are going off without a hitch is the lack of snow and cold days where students could not rehearse, like last year during Peter Pan.

“I remember last year with Peter Pan it was a lot harder because we were cursed with cold days and that destroyed our rehearsal schedule a bit,” Conor Jordan, senior who plays Lord Farquaad, said. “But this show is in great shape. We are ready for next week to perform, so everything is going according to plan.”

Also in the plan that has yet to be completed is seeing the reaction of the audience to the hilarious banter of the musical, which is the part Jordan is most looking forward to.

“As is with every children’s show I have been in, seeing the kids’ reactions is going to be the best part, especially when they see how funny the show is and how ridiculous my costume is,” Jordan said. “I am excited to hear them laughing hysterically at some very funny parts.”

As for the rest of the crew who work behind the scenes to make the production happen, their joy comes from the audience’s reaction, too.

“We all are very excited to see the audience’s reactions to the show,” Sinclair said. “[We are also excited]  to see our hard work pay off in the end.”
