New clocks to be placed throughout hallways

New clocks sponsored by the Bear Boosters Club will be placed throughout the school hallways this year. Clock (Medium)

Fifty one clocks were bought from Security Unlimited for the 2014-2015 school year. The new clocks cost $289 each and will be wirelessly synced with each other. They will be spread throughout the hallways in the building for students and faculty.

“[Clocks were ordered] because we don’t have anything outside in the hallways for students to be able to tell time and be on time to class without taking their cellphones out,” Ryan Rubenstein, assistant principal for student activities and facilities, said.

The goal of the clocks is to turn it into a bigger project. The school is eventually looking to purchase other clocks for classrooms to be on the same wireless system, according to Rubenstein.

The new clocks have not been put up yet, but the hope is to have them done as soon as possible, according to Rubenstein.

“The electrical [parts] are all in and ready to be done, but I’m still waiting on the clocks,” Rubenstein said. “I’m hoping they will be in within the next week or so.”

The clocks will be placed in specified locations throughout the school hallways.

“[The clocks] have to be placed within 200 feet of one another because they are synced wirelessly,” said Rubenstein. “This is so they all say the exact same time and switch at the same time.”

The new clocks are not the only school improvement related items purchased for the 2014-2015 school year.  300 new desks were ordered to replace the older desk-and-chair combinations in nine Language and two Special Education classrooms.
