This past summer, the main Fieldhouse court was redesigned due to chipped paint and layers of oil building up.

Kiefer Specialty Flooring Inc., a company from Rockford, redesigned the court for the first time in ten years. All of the gym floors have the top layer of oil taken off and redone annually.

“Right now, in the Main and Tonelli gym, they took off the top level of oil and they came in and put the oil back down,” Rolly Vazquez, athletic director, said. “We’ve been doing that in the Fieldhouse for a long time, and you can tell how the color is on the floor right now because before it was yellow-ish because of the layers of wax.”

The new Fieldhouse floor displays the bear claw icon in the center and includes the IHSA logos on opposite sides of the floor by the three point lines. The court also has blue end lines with “BEARS” outlined in white.

“[The bear claw] is just something we are trying to imprint on all of our facilities,” Vazquez said.

The bear claw icon is also represented in the center of the football field, which was also redone this summer.
