Music madness and obsession with bands

For Marin Lilly, sophomore, it all started almost ten years ago, back in 2006. Taylor Swift had just released her debut album Taylor Swift, and Lilly was already in love with her music.

“I started loving Taylor Swift when her song Our Song came out off of her first album in 2006,” Lilly said, “I feel like her music is things that younger people like teenagers can relate too because we through some of the things, and she’s gone through a lot of similar things like bullying, friendships, and relationships. I feel like you can learn a lot through her music.”

Some use creative outlets such as drawing or running a social media account dedicated to their favorite band or musician, Miranda Bacon,  a sophomore who is a fan of the band Hollywood Undead, does just that.

“I have a mural painted on my wall to them, as well as dedicated an instagram to them. I would say I am obsessed,” Bacon said,“When I first started the account, I was originally going to use it to post pictures I found of them that I liked, but then I started creating things. I would draw pictures of them or make lyric edits. I still post a lot of pictures that aren’t mine but I’ve made a lot of online friends through that account because most people that follow me like hollywood undead almost as much as I do.”

Some fans will go as far as incorporating the band or artist they like into their daily lives in unconventional ways.

“I took one of my pairs of converse a few months ago and drew the band logo as well as a city skyline on them due to the fact that  it kind of matches part of the album art cover for their first album                                                                                                                                                                                           “Swan Songs”. I just love to make things that have to do with them,” Bacon said.

Even thinking about going to a concert or meeting the band or artist a fan loves can spur excitement and happiness in a fan’s heart.

“I’m seeing Taylor this summer, I am so happy. I saw her last tour, and I’ll probably cry when I see her again because I love her so much. If I met her I probably cry for the rest of my life. I have her autograph that I got for my birthday last year that my mom won hanging on my wall,” Lilly said.

“I haven’t been to a concert of theirs, but I have thought about it. I would be screaming the whole time, I would be so happy. I wouldn’t be able to sleep for a whole twenty four hours,” Bacon said.
