Student volunteers at local food pantry

St. Francis de Sales, a catholic church in the area, offers a food pantry to help the less fortunate.

It also offers an opportunity to volunteer to help others.

“Technically this is my first year doing the food pantry, but I love volunteering there. I love seeing the smiles on peoples’ faces, and sometimes they’ll even say God bless you and they’re just all so sweet. It makes me really happy,” Sophie Estes, sophomore said.

To sign up to volunteer, there is a place on the St. Francis de Sales website to print out a form to fill out.

“I highly recommend it, It’s just so rewarding knowing that you helped someone in their time of need. The best part of volunteering there is the fact that we actually help people who may feel bad and may make them feel happy,” Estes said.

If someone wanted to volunteer at the food pantry and was nervous Estes says there is no reason to worry.

“If you’re nervous about volunteering there, don’t be. Not that many people talk, they just pick out the stuff they want and go. You don’t really have to carry a conversation but if you do they really appreciate it,” Estes said.
