Girls Lacrosse

Only one game highlighted the week for the girls lacrosse team. This game drew their regular season to a conclusion.

On Monday the team traveled to Saint Viator where the game ended in a tough 18-4 loss to a good team.

Now that the team’s regular season is over, the team can focus on IHSA Sectionals where they face Glenbrook North in the Quarterfinals on Monday.

Girls Soccer

Win or go home time for the girls’ soccer team began this week as they entered the IHSA Regionals, and they did not just survive and advance their way through regionals; they thrived and conquered.

Game one started with a strong 4-2 defeat of Palatine in the regional semifinals on Tuesday as the Bears came out of the locker room at half time with three goals to finish the game. The Regional Final was played on Friday night as the team faced Hersey. The game ended in a 3-1 victory that earned the team more hardware for the season.

Sectionals will begin on Tuesday as the team will face school rival Stevenson in

Semifinals. The team lost their only matchup against the Patriots earlier this season in a 1-0 loss but will hope to change that result come Tuesday. Should the team win, they will play on Saturday for the Sectional title.

Girls Track and Field

The girls track team was significantly smaller this week, but that doesn’t mean their support of one another was any lesser than before. After all, it was State Weekend.

The school boasted a total of nine state qualifiers at Eastern Illinois University on Friday and Saturday. Of those nine, only one was able to make their way into the finals on Saturday. Kelsey Rothas, junior, qualified for the finals with a height of 11 feet. In the finals, Rothas was able to clear 11’6” which tied her for second place in the state.

“State was really special because ultimately it is the one thing any athlete works toward,” Jillian Baffa, senior who was on the state qualifying 4×800 team, said. “It has been a goal of mine forever and to finally make it my senior year as a relay was awesome.”

Now that the girls track and field season is over, the team will head to start training in hopes of improving their performance at state next year and improve their personal bests.

Boys Track and Field

It was the boys track team’s chance at advancing to state this week as they competed at IHSA Sectionals at Buffalo Grove.

Out of the 15 teams competing, the team placed ninth with 25 points. The team will also be sending two athletes to State next weekend at Eastern Illinois University. Marek Enters, senior, will be competing in the 300-meter hurdles, and Jake Myers, sophomore, will be competing in the 1600-meter race.

The rest of the team’s season is over, but the team will be cheering on their two athletes next week at State.

Baseball

The baseball team finished their regular season on an absolute hot streak as they are riding a five-game winning streak with three of those wins being shutouts in this week alone.

The week started out with a pair of shutouts over Waukegan on Monday and Tuesday:

game one 14-0 and game two 10-0. The only non-shutout of the week came against St. Viator at home on Wednesday where it took until the sixth inning for the bats to bust out and claim the lead in an 11-8 victory. Friday ended the week with a strong 5-0 shutout of Fremd at home.

The team will now get set for the beginning of Regionals on Thursday as the team will face Deerfield.

Softball

The softball team was also hot this week as they played their final two games of the regular season.

Elizabeth Chialdikas, junior, was the star of the game on Monday as she drove in four runs in an 11-1 victory over Mundelein. Tuesday brought a slightly closer game as the team was able to defeat Waukegan at home 4-1.

The team will now begin their postseason play on Tuesday as they face Crystal Lake Central in the Regional Semifinals at Barrington.

Allied Soccer

The Allied Soccer team played their second and final game of the season on Tuesday, but it wasn’t any normal game.

The game time was unique. Noon on a school day may seem odd, but there was no better place for the team to show off their skills in front of the student body than at the Bears Barbecue. The team faced Mundelein and was able to pull away with an 11-8 victory that boasted multiple hat tricks. Prominent goal-scorers include the trio of Andrew Koppel, transitions student, Jeffery Murphy, transitions student, and Griffin Koppel, sophomore.

The team can now look back on this season being 2-0 and say they were undefeated. They will undoubtedly be back next year.

Boys Volleyball

The boys volleyball team had their regular season come to a close this week and the team sure did finish hot.

The week started on Wednesday where the team closed out their conference schedule with a victory over Waukegan in straight sets. Thursday came Senior Night as the team finished their final home game of the year with a victory over Grayslake Central also in straight sets.

The team will now begin IHSA Regionals on Monday with their first game against Mundelein.

Boys Lacrosse

The boys lacrosse team also finished up their regular season this week and they did it in games that went down to the wire.

The week started with a Tuesday night game against Grayslake Central where the team got the lower hand in a 7-6 finish. They then counteracted that with a close 10-8 victory over Grayslake North on the Road on Thursday.

The team will start their Postseason on Monday with a tough game against Glenbrook South in the sectional quarterfinals.

Boys Tennis

The boys tennis team began their postseason this week by playing their Sectional on Friday night at Stevenson.

Unfortunately, the team will not have any athletes go to state next week as the team was only able to get one victory in doubles in the first round.

The season is now over for the team and they will now will go into the offseason looking to improve upon this season.

The school year might be winding down in the coming weeks, but the #lznation sports teams are getting to crunch time! Catch up here on everything you might have missed so far!
