Winter Guard won first, second, and Grand Champions titles for their open flag and saber routines at last weekend’s Team Dance Illinois State competition.

The team placed first for their open flag routine and second in the winter guard show. In addition to the title of TDI State Champions, Winter Guard was also won a $500 prize.

“We’ve worked really hard since November and we’ve all really pushed ourselves to achieve our titles,” Rebecca Johlie, junior, said.

This is the third year in a row Winter Guard has received first in TDI’s state competition.

“It’s always so much fun to compete with my team. We really try and have a good time while competing,” Johlie said.

Winter Guard is looking forward to competing in IDTA’s state competition March 16.

“I really hope we win [IDTA’s] state again this year!” Johlie said. “I think our whole team really just hopes to keep improving our skills for this season and into next.”
