Weekly Sports Update (9/4/11-9/10/11)

Every week, Bear Facts will be posting updates about teams and their performance.

Tennis:

The girls’ tennis team won against Grant  7-0 on Tuesday, then suffered a loss to Warren on Thursday 0-7, bringing their record to 2-4. The girls will be playing in the Bison Invite Saturday morning with games against Cary Grove, Mundelein, and Libertyville.

“We’ve definitely been progressing, we’re all finding our spots whether it’s singles or doubles and we’ve all been stepping up and filling spots,” Michelle Carlson, varsity senior, said.

The girls will be playing at Cary Grove on Monday, at Mundelein on Tuesday, at Libertyville on Thursday, and finally at the Power Invitational on Saturday.

Volleyball:

The girls’ volleyball team beat Warren in two games on Tuesday.  On Friday night, the girls beat Mundelein in three games.

The two wins leave the team with a record of 7-3.

“We had a lot of issues to work out in the beginning but we’re finally working as a team and the result of that is really impressive,” Ali Summers, varsity player, said.

This coming week, the girls will be playing at Fremd on Wednesday and at the JHHS invite at Hersey High School.

Soccer:

The boys’ varsity soccer team won 3-1 at Mount Carmel on Tuesday, followed by a 6-0 win over Bartlett on Thursday.

“The team did really well,” Jorge Bermudez, varsity senior, said. “We started out a little rough but we’re coming together and getting the results we’re looking for.  Let’s just keep it up.”

This Tuesday, the boys are playing at Mundelein.

Cross Country:

The girls’ cross country team had a meet on Saturday, September 10 at the Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda.
Senior Elizabeth Berton came in 20th place at the meet with a time of 19:58.49. No other runners came in the top 50, but junior Maddie Gelinas was close at 57 with a time of 21:27.60.
The boys’ cross country team does not have a meet until Monday, September 12, when they will run in Zion-Benton. The varsity girls will run again next week at the Peoria invite on September 17.
