Kyle Russ wins 2012 Mr. Lake Zurich title

This year’s Mr. Lake Zurich Competition was filled with laughs, awkward moments, and sheer excellence displayed by some of LZHS’s most talented senior males. However one competitor stood out among the rest: Kyle Russ.

Russ’s talent portion of the competition consisted of a ballroom-style dance with Candice Glicken, English teacher. Russ’s dazzling moves wowed the crowd and ultimately propelled him into the top five contestants: Russ, Luke Spoerlein, Bart Gasiorek, Dietrich Ihm, and Parker Matzinger.

The final round consisted of the contestant’s heart-felt letters to their mothers, the contestant’s best pick-up lines, and a short question and answer portion. The judges then decided that Russ was an obvious standout and chose him as Mr. Lake Zurich 2012.

The show also featured the popular Saturday Night Live skit, “Wayne’s World,” put on by Luke Spoerlein as Wayne and Will Hussey as his sidekick Garth. Brenden Seeger was supposed to be a part of their skit as well but was unable to perform in the pageant due to knee surgery earlier this week.

Other skits included Jack Lynn, Brandon Markert, and David LaVanne dressed as three little people; Chris Johlie, Parker Matzinger, and Dietrich Ihm, performing a Monty Python act; and Bart Gasiorek, Joey Bialas and Kyle Russ reenacting a popular Saturday Night Live skit.
