Travel to a world of imagination with the Hobbit

Travel+to+a+world+of+imagination+with+the+Hobbit

With Christmas around the corner, Elves seem to be missing from Santa’s workshop. The  Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey, hit theaters last Friday, and proved to be a magical hit.

The plot centers around Bilbo, the Hobbit. The movie is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book, The Hobbit, which is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. There are many familiar faces, such as Gandalf, Frodo, and Smeagol, but there are also new characters which help explain the Dwarves’ struggle.

Though the movie is almost three hours long, it seems much faster thanks to the excitement and suspense the movie builds up. The Hobbit is a great visual of the book, and every second keeps the audience on its toes.

The setting is breathtaking. The Elf Kingdom, above all, is intricate and stunning. The scenery helps build the plotline and allows the viewer to feel what the characters feel. Since the Elves are peaceful, their kingdom suits them perfectly.

The characters stayed true to their roles in the book. Additionally, most actors were the same ones from the trilogy. This helped the consistency and comfort for the series. The creators chose excellent actors; they made the story real, and not just another fairytale.

The Hobbit is the first in the prequel trilogy. The next two, the Desolation of a Smaug and There and Back Again, are set for release in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

This winter break, rather than sitting at home watching reruns on TV, check out Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.
