Walk the Moon releases new album, Talking is Hard

talking is hard_2Walk the Moon released a new album called Talking is Hard late last year, but songs are just starting to climb to the top of the charts. The band continued their energetic and groovy beats to make this album the most enjoyable as possible.

“Shut Up and Dance” was definitely the song all over the radio that scored #19 on iTunes’ charts, but other songs on the album caught Carly Spaulding, junior’s attention.

“ ‘Shut Up and Dance,’ ‘Aquaman,’ and ‘Portugal’ are my favorite songs on the album,” Spaulding said.

“Aquaman” is less upbeat and “pop” sounding compared to “Shut Up and Dance” but offers a great combination of instruments to create a cool and calming song, perfect for studying.

“Portugal” is again a slower song that introduces the second half of the album. Many lyrics in the song are very catchy, but one that stands out is “Once glance and the avalanche drops, one glance and my heartbeat stops.”

“Overall, Walk the Moon is really good at creating music that makes you wanna dance without the bass thumping in the back,” Emma Wenckowski, sophomore, said. Wenckowski is fan who hopes attending Summerfest to watch Walk the Moon perform acoustically and “witness their amazingness live.”

Talking is Hard is an everyday album, the songs are very catchy yet not too repetitive. The band offers a throwback style to the 80’s with their “non pop” sound that separates them from the artists and bands today.

This style makes the album a great choice for anything that you might need a couple tunes for.

“Its also good driving music, because the music has a full, strong, interesting sound,” Wenckowski said. “It makes one feel not so lonely on long rides.”
