Greenhouse hosts spring plant sale

The Special Education Greenhouse will be selling flowers, tomatoes, beans, and much more on May 26 during lunch periods at the LZHS Greenhouse.

The Greenhouse is located by door 10, on the west side of the school. However the sale is not strictly for profit for the Special Education department. The Greenhouse has been open since March.

“Students that wouldn’t normally eat these types of food [are eating them]. Also, regarding sensory issues, I’ve seen students being able to [interact with the garden]. I’m pleased with their fine motor skills,” Jenna Cataldi, special education teacher, said.

Cataldi is not alone in her enthusiasm for the greenhouse and the kids.

“What they’re selling isn’t just plants,” Ryan Kim, senior said. “What they’re trying to sell here are plants that are planted by people and a community with a passion for helping those with a mental handicap while simultaneously helping the environment.”

Kim hopes other students will go visit the Greenhouse before the school year is over.

“It’s not what they’re selling, Kim said. “It’s why they’re selling it.”
