Football team faces Cary Grove for second game of season

The football team will face Cary Grove tonight at 7:30pm for the second game of the season.

The team has been practicing to be able to continue to build their defense, and not turn the ball over, according to Aaron Towne, varsity football coach.

“A lot of the kids that didn’t get much playing time last year at least have a game to go back on. You’re not as raw. [the players] now have some experience, even though it’s just one game,” Towne said.

Also, the team has been practicing by putting the defense and offense under distress and working their way through the problems in the game as they appear.

Cary Grove is one of the stronger teams in the 6A division, which Lake Zurich is also in, according to Towne.

“We’re very similar. Year in and year out, we’re never the biggest. We’re usually never the fastest, but we’re tough kids. It does a lot when both teams work as a unit. They play very well together as a team,” Towne said.

According to Towne, the teams have goals to play a clean game with little to no penalties at the end.
