Orchestra concert to dive into Christmas music with new teacher

Orchestra students prepare for their holiday concert. With the help of Nathan Sackschewsky, the new orchestra teacher, the students are learning to incorporate band students into their music.

Orchestra may not be your forte, but the December 16 concert will leave you humming a new tune. The showcase will highlight Christmas music of the holiday season, along with a new conductor this year and new incorporations at the showcase.

This year, the orchestra in playing with members of the band, learning how to work with them from the help of their new teacher.

“We are learning to incorporate band instruments more and learning stuff from actual symphonies,” Justin Shah, junior, said.

One of the focuses Nathan Sackschewsky, orchestra teacher and conductor brings to class is challenging his students to work together.

“In the long run I think the challenges help us create better art. We’re all working on music together. In some classes they’re teaching you something and in here we’re all learning how to do this process together,” Sackschewsky said.

Students have a lot of confidence in the orchestra’s ability to play and knows their hard work will show at this concert.

“I love Christmas music,” Morgan Kaplan, senior who is excited for her last winter showcase, said. “It’s exciting to hear all the songs Mr. S chose for us.” 

With more band incorporation and listening to Christmas favorites, orchestra students are ready to surprise audiences with their talent at this years’ show. Musicians encourage peers to not “B-flat” and come to see their performance on Friday.
