Francesca Castro, senior performer, plays her guitar in the 2015 talent show. She has performed every year of her high school career.

Students will perform an array of skills on a spotlit stage in front of judges and an audience of their peers in the annual talent show.

Student Council will host the talent show December 1 at 7pm in the PAC. All proceeds will go towards this year’s Charity Bash charity, Partners for Progress.

“I’ve been participating in the talent show since middle school,” Francesca Castro, senior performer, said. “I keep doing it every year because it’s really fun. I like the response from the crowd. It gives me a lot of adrenaline whenever I perform.”

Castro has done a guitar performance for every high school talent show, and she will continue that trend this year.

“I’m going to be playing the song ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ by Stevie Wonder,” Castro said. “I’m going to loop my guitar and improvise of the chord changes. I’m also going to be using a melodica, which is a tiny piano that you blow into so it sounds like a harmonica.”

Castro is just one of several musicians who will be performing Thursday night.

“There will definitely be a big variety this year,” Melanie McGrath, senior talent show chair, said. “There’s a lot of musicians, which is typical, and we also have a lot more bands than we’ve had before. Dance is a big one this year, singing as usual, and we have a couple comedy acts.”

These students will rehearse on Wednesday night for their show Thursday. There are at least 20 acts to rehearse and perform this year, McGrath said. The students will all be competing for awards for their talents.

“There’s going to be students and teachers judging,” McGrath said. “They present awards, like overall awards, best musical, or funniest.”

McGrath said she has enjoyed her job organizing the talent show this year.

“It’s been fun. It’s not difficult to organize because it’s a really well known event,” McGrath said. “It’s not hard to get the word out about auditions and when the shows are. I think there’s a lot of talent this year. We have a lot of new people that I think will set it apart from last year.”
