Last year’s Student Section Leader Drew Kowalski ignites the crowd at the 2014 Back To School Assembly. This year, Noah McGarr is trying to unite the school by allowing underclassmen to participate during theme days.

With the whirlwind that has been the first week of school, the Back to School Assembly is so necessary for the student body, and not just for the shortened periods.

“The purpose for this assembly in particular is not only to welcome the freshman, but to become a united front from the start of the school year,” Syndey Shadrick, junior and student council member, said.

This assembly does just that, it will be announcing things going around the school, the changes made since last year, and will even address dress up days.

“We’re trying to eliminate a lot of the segregated activities between the upper and lower classmen; for example dressing up at the football games according to the theme will include everyone,” Shadrick said.

“The way I see it is it’s stupid for the majority of student section activities to only include seniors, who are only one fourth of the school,” Christopher Bennett, student council sponsor, said.

This year, student council, along with administration, will be working very hard to make this school inclusive of everyone. There’s even a good chance our assembly will be outside this year, Bennett said.

“So if the is assembly outside then seating will be at random,” Shadrick said. “It is our hope then that the ‘Go home freshman cheer’ will be eliminated then since it would be pointless if everyone is together as one. We want this sense of unification not only for football season, but to be carried all through out the school year.”
