New Assistant Director of Athletics named

LZHS announced Tom ReaganTom_Reagan,_Head_Sophomore_Coach, has been named the new Assistant Director of Athletics for the next year.

The new position was created to help create more opportunities for the current Director of Athletics, Rolando Vazquez, and to assist with scheduling of events and games, along with schedules of other student organizations, such as the student section, according to Reagan.

“[My job will be] to help with the scheduling and supervision to allow Mr. Vazquez to explore some new things that he may want to tackle with the athletic department and just to make the whole department better,” Reagan said. “We have so many great opportunities for kids, and to have someone else helping out will potentially allow for bigger and better things for everyone.”

Despite many common qualities between Vazquez and Reagan’s jobs, there are still some definite contrasts in what the two will be doing.

“Mr Vazquez is still completely responsible for the hiring and supervision of all the coaching staff,” Kent Nightlinger, Principal, said. “[Vazquez] will have the final decision and supervision of all the coaches and things like that where the assistant may provide some input, but they’re not going to be responsible for making some of those decisions.”

The job comes with many new challenges and opportunities, according to Reagan, including attending more school athletic events.

“I feel like I’m pretty active. Even before getting the position, I’ve worked (essentially) every home football game for the past ten years, but getting out to a broader range of events and getting to know more students in the athletic realm is something that I’m really looking forward too,” Reagan said.

Much of the returning staff is also looking forward to having the new position and the work Reagan will do for the school.

“We’re excited to have him,” Nightlinger said, “Personally, I know he’ll do a great job. [Reagan] just loves Lake Zurich High School in general, and especially loves the athletic program.”
