Spring Assembly celebrates achievements of students

The school will celebrate the achievements of students this Friday at the Spring Assembly. Students who will be recognized include those who participate in athletics, academics, or clubs, according to Chris Bennett, Student Council sponsor.

Conor Jordan, senior, performs his recreation of an SNL skit that he acted out during Mr. LZ.

“The Spring Assembly is generally our recognition assembly. So what we do at the Spring Assembly is [celebrate] people’s accomplishments throughout the year and some performances that go along with those accomplishments,” Bennett said.

This year’s performances include a teaser from the spring musical, Anything Goes!, All-State musicians, and the band’s Wind Ensemble, which has qualified for Super-State. Along with the musicians, there will be a performance from Conor Jordan, senior and this year’s Talent Show and Mr. LZ winner.

Jordan will be in three performances. He will be singing the song “Friendship” from Anything Goes! with Daniela Crocco, senior, “My Way” by Frank Sinatra from the Talent Show, and performing his motivational speech from Chris Farley’s famous Saturday Night Live character Matt Foley from Mr. LZ. Jordan found his inspiration for the talent show from his family and took a popular Saturday Night Live! skit for Mr. LZ.

Mark Schwartz, senior, performs a solo during the Wind Ensemble performance. Wind Ensemble qualified for Super State, and Schwartz also qualified for the IHSA All-State Wind Ensemble.

“I wanted to do ‘My Way’ for my dad because he loves that song and it’s my favorite song,” Jordan said. “And the Matt Foley one… I don’t know. I took the character from SNL and wrote a script directing it toward students at LZHS and problems at LZHS.”
