Night of Noise to fill gym with fun

After being silent all day to show solidarity with closeted LGBT people, students will have the opportunity to make some noise Friday night in a celebration.

“Night of Noise is a night of celebration following Day of Silence,” Rachel Paul, junior, said. “Day of Silence is a more serious, more formal day. Night of Noise is a time we let loose and say, ‘We did it.’ It’s a way to bring more people into the community.”

The Gay-Straight Alliance will host the Night of Noise dance Friday night from 7-10pm in the Main Gym. Admission is $7. The dance is informal, but anything within dress code is acceptable. The night offers many attractions and aims to create a fun atmosphere after the Day of Silence.

“There is going to be a DJ and lots of dancing,” Paul said. “Lots of food, and there’s going to be a fashion show. People are excited about that. It’s only our second time; we started last year, in terms of

the fashion show. That’ll be the time when people get to dress up and have fun with everyone. There will be prizes for the winners.”

“I think the benefit of Night of Noise is being able to bring students together for something that isn’t necessarily brought up a lot in schools,” Shelby Rigsby, senior, said. “That’s why I think that it’s important for the kids to be having fun while recognizing the importance of the issue.”

The dance is not exclusively for LZHS students. Students from other GSA groups are invited to join in the fun.

“We will send an email out to a number of schools, once it’s compiled,” Paul said, “but it’s word of mouth.”

Paul encourages anyone who is interested to check out the facebook event page Night of Noise 2015, and says all are welcome.
