Students and faculty members sang, danced, and painted themselves blue leading to five standing ovations at the annual Talent Show held to raise money for this year’s charity, St. Baldrick’s. Jemma_talentshowpicture

“My favorite act was Mara Nasui [junior] and Matt Wang [senior,]” Hannah Zurcher, sophomore tech member, said. “I loved the song choice of the two Taylor Swift songs mashed up.”

The show started with this year’s Battle of the Bands winner, Elementary, playing some pre-show tunes. The show officially started with Melanie McGrath, sophomore, playing her own composition.

After McGrath, came a variety of musical performances such as Bare Voices and another by Francesca Castro, sophomore, who sang “Uptown Funk” along with her own voice-made instrumentals in the background.

“My favorite act of the show was Francesca’s because even with technical difficulties, she continued to perform with the best of her ability,” Miriam Chung, sophomore Student Council volunteer, said. “Her act was unique with the combination of a sound board and electric guitar.”

Senior Jeffery Watkins, however, made sure his song did not get lost in the musical performances. He sang eight different songs in eight different voices. Watkins’ act definitely got people laughing as well as enjoying the many styles of music.

“The most unique act was Jeffery because he was one of the only people who didn’t just sing or play an instrument,” Zurcher said.

The show came to an end with the Blue (Wo)Man Group finale composed of female faculty members who covered their faces in blue paint. They started their act off by throwing marshmallows across the stage to one another to catch in their mouths. Then the group started to get the audience’s help by inviting them to the stage to catch the marshmallows in their mouths, too. It was definitely an engaging experience, Zurcher said.

“The highlight was the teacher act because it was really strange and got the audience involved,” Zurcher said.

The official winner of the show was Conor Jordan, senior. Second place went to Nasui and Wang. The Most Creative Award was given to Watkins. Judges’ choice was both Castro and the Eight Saxophones group, according to Chris Bennett, Student Council sponsor.
