When seniors Kevin Gallagher, Jesse Dever, and Zack Keller met in elementary school, they had no idea they would form a band and win Battle of the Bands in high school.

“Two weeks before Battle of the Bands, sophomore year, we started thinking, ‘we all play instruments and we all sing, why don’t we give it a try?'” said Dever, who plays guitar.

The boys named their group, Elementary, because that is when they became friends. Even though the band didn’t win the first year, they still had a lot of fun, Dever said.

“We are friends outside of the band, so our friendship comes first and that turns into us making the band,” Dever said. “Music has just always been the best way to get together and enjoy each other’s company and learn new music while we’re doing it.”
Elementary entered in Battle of the Bands again last year, and with the help of Matt Wang, 2014 graduate, won, Gallagher said.

“[Music] is something that speaks to me, like when I hear something or anything musical. It’s an easy way to express yourself and get your feelings across and something that’s fun to do in the first place,” Gallagher said.
